Farewell to Donald Sutherland: A Hollywood Legend Passes Away at 88
Also, a heartfelt message from son, Kiefer Sutherland
Sad news, everyone: Donald Sutherland, one of the most memorable actors of our time, has passed away at the age of 88. If you grew up in the 80s, you might remember him as Sgt. Oddball in "Kelly's Heroes" or Pinkley in "The Dirty Dozen." He’s also known for his roles in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Klute." Sutherland had a unique ability to portray a wide range of characters, making him a true legend in Hollywood.
Do you remember him in Lock Up with Sylvester Stallone, or in Buffy The Vampire Slayer? I was also a big fan of his role in The Mechanic with Jason Statham!
Donald Sutherland was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, and achieved significant recognition throughout his career. He won an Emmy and two Golden Globes. Sutherland's contributions to the arts were honored with a star on Canada's Walk of Fame, the prestigious Order of Canada, and even a stamp issued by Canada Post in his name. He was such a versatile actor in both film and television, and he was a celebrated figure in Canadian and global cinema.
Sutherland is survived by his wife and five children, the most famous being Kiefer Sutherland.
“I love to work. I passionately love to work. I love to feel my hand fit into the glove of some other character. I feel a huge freedom — time stops for me. I’m not as crazy as I used to be, but I’m still a little crazy.” ~ Donald Sutherland
Rest in peace Donald Sutherland, you will be missed.
